چکیده
Abstract Background The fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda is a highly destructive agricultural pest that primarily damages maize in China. However, there were no reports of S. damage to banana until it was observed on bananas the wild. This suggested crops may be potential hosts pest. To clarify fitness and impact banana, this study analysed survival development fed laboratory constructed age-stage two-sex life tables. Results Larvae completed their cycles produced fertile offspring, but larvae had eight instars presented longer developmental duration, slower population growth, lower body weight than maize-fed larvae. Furthermore, banana-fed adult longevity preoviposition periods larvae, while opposite tendency for oviposition days egg production. Based tables, probability at each stage showed reproductive capacity. Conclusions Although not an ideal host armyworm, colonized by species situations which density high or preferred scarce. Therefore, essential prevent from transferring thereby increasing number sources outbreaks. Graphical

Inhibition of the Responses to Sex Pheromone of the Fall Armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda
Trifluoromethyl ketones reversibly inhibit pheromone-degrading esterases in insect olfactory tissues, affecting pheromone detection and behavior of moth males. In this work, (Z)-9-tetradecenyl trifluoromethyl ketone (Z9-14:TFMK), a closely-related analogue of the pheromone of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), was prepared and tested in electroantennogram...
متن کاملInvestigating the Molecular Mechanisms of Organophosphate and Pyrethroid Resistance in the Fall Armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda
The fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda is an economically important pest of small grain crops that occurs in all maize growing regions of the Americas. The intensive use of chemical pesticides for its control has led to the selection of resistant populations, however, to date, the molecular mechanisms underlying resistance have not been characterised. In this study the mechanisms involved in t...
متن کاملNatural Distribution of Parasitoids of Larvae of the Fall Armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, in Argentina
To develop a better understanding of the natural distribution of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), and to update the knowledge of the incidence of its complex of parasitoids. S. frugiperda, samplings in whorl-stage corn were carried out in provinces of Argentina from 1999 to 2003. S. frugiperda larvae were collected from corn in localities of the provinc...
متن کاملDistribution of elongation factor-1α in larval tissues of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda
Elongation factor-1alpha (EF-1alpha) promotes the delivery of aminoacyl-tRNA to the acceptor site of the ribosome during protein synthesis. The enzyme has a number of additional functions, including regulation of apoptosis and interaction with the cytoskeleton. We determined the distribution of EF-1alpha in larval tissues of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda , with a monoclonal antibody ...
متن کاملPopulation Variation of the Fall Armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, in the Western Hemisphere
Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), the fall armyworm is the most economically important maize pest in the western hemisphere. This research focused on the genetic variability of the maize host strain because there is a lack of information in this area of S. frugiperda research. Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) was used to assess the genetic variability of ...
